Pitch Night changelog
Every change to Pitch Night (first called Widow Pitch, then Pitch Score Keeper), newest first.
Current version: [1.1] — 2026-10-17
[1.1] — 2026-10-17 - Friends & family tables, play the computer, every kind of Pitch
Added
- Friends & family tables: start a table, share its 4-letter code or link, and play together from your own phones. Pick seats, fill empty chairs with computer players, rejoin after a dropped connection. The server deals and sends each phone only its own cards. Wrong-code guessing gets locked out.
- New name: Pitch Night.
- Play the computer: you and a computer partner against two computer players at a real card table. Bid, pick up the widow, name trump, throw away and draw, and play every trick, with a Hint button. Only your own cards are face up. Hands go on the scoreboard like any other, and a hand in progress picks up where you left off.
- Smart computer players that think ahead: they try out where the cards they can't see might be and play the move that works best (they never peek). Pick Easy for gentler opponents. A running score shows each team's points and Game count as tricks fall, and the end of each hand shows the trump left in the deck.
- Lowest bid and Dealer stuck at settings for every game type; 8-point Widow now starts bidding at 4.
- Game types: 8-point Widow (still the default), 10-point, 5-point, 4-point, or custom points a hand, lowest bid and stuck bid. Bids, points, the Play-to score and the Rules page all follow the type.
- Hand tracker: pick trump and tap each card to the team that took it. It works out High, Low, Jack, Off-jack, both jokers, Ten, Three and Game, and Use these points fills in the hand. A hand you're halfway through is kept if the page reloads.
- Game counter: tap in tens, aces, kings, queens and jacks for each team to see who gets Game.
- Bid stats for each team under the hand list: bids made, sets, and best hand.
- Dealer tracking: put in all four players and it shows who's dealing and who bids first, passes the deal left each hand, notes who dealt each hand, and knows which team is stuck when someone gets poked. Draw for it picks the first dealer: high card deals, ties draw again.
- Shoot the moon (House rules): bid every point; make it and win the game (or score double), miss it and lose.
- Bragging rights on the Games page: awards (Most wins, Hot streak, Best bidder, Biggest hand, Moonwalkers, Most poked, Self-poke champs, Rottenest luck) and a leaderboard across all your games.
- Styled pop-ups for undo, delete, clear and new game, instead of the browser's plain boxes.
- House rules for how many cards each player and the widow get (6 and 5 to start), and dealing three or one at a time. The Rules page now describes the deal to the left, refilling everyone back up to six after trump is named, and the leftover cards set aside unseen.
- How to play page (tap Rules): the deal, the widow, bidding, trump, the 8 points and scoring, in plain English.
- Before you add a hand, a small box shows who made it or went set and how much each team's score moves.
- Listed on TheLabs.fyi.
Changed
- Renamed Pitch Score Keeper, since it plays more than Widow Pitch now. Your saved games carry over.
- "First to 21" on the New game screen follows your Play to score.
- Scoring a hand is now four numbered steps: who bid, the bid, any mark, and the points they took.
- The hand list shows the team on one line and "Bid 6 · took 3", made it or set, and any mark on the next.
- Past games show one line per team with the winner in bold.
- New hand-drawn icons for Poked, Self-poked and the third mark, which now has a family-friendly name: Rotten widow.
[1.0] — 2026-10-16 - First version
Added
- Team names, play to 21 (or any score), and the house rule for whether the other team scores when the bidders go set.
- Bids 2 to 8, points taken, a running score on a playing card for each team, and a hand-by-hand list with undo.
- Poked (dealer stuck bidding 4) and Self-poked marks, stamped on the team's card and counted all game.
- Winner banner, one-tap rematch, past games and a win tally.
- Works with no signal, installs like an app, keeps the screen on during a game. Dark by default with a light mode.
