About TheLabs.fyi

TheLabs.fyi makes small, free browser tools for problems we ran into ourselves. Each one does one job, runs entirely in your browser, and keeps your data on your own computer.

Why they exist

FreeFiller started with a simple belief: filling in your own forms, from data stored on your own computer, shouldn't cost a subscription. Lightning Autofill did this for free for years, then moved to paid plans with a daily limit on the free one. FreeFiller does the same job with no limits, no account and no cloud, and it imports Lightning Autofill rules so switching takes a minute. It's also the easy answer to a daily annoyance: Chrome won't save passwords on routers and other devices with self-signed certificates, so without it you type the same logins over and over.

FreeRefMod was born on a different job: managing InHand LTE cellular routers from a distance. Their web page only lets you log in when the browser says you came from the router's own local address, like http://192.168.2.1/. From anywhere else, the login just refuses. FreeRefMod sends the referrer the router expects, and it has since grown into a general tool for controlling what each site sees.

How we build them

  • Free, with nothing held back. No trials, no "pro" features, no daily caps.
  • Local only. No accounts, no analytics and no servers in the middle. Read the privacy page for the details.
  • Plain explanations. Every permission a tool asks Chrome for is explained on its page.
  • Tested before release. Each version is tested in a real Chrome against a bench of tricky pages before it goes up.
